monday morning motivator: the why
good morning and welcome to the monday morning motivator. since this is a new project and you are taking the time to be involved, i thought i would take a moment to fill you in on my motivation for starting this thing up.
seven weeks ago (7 weeks already?!) i started a regular feature on this blog, the friday afternoon update! partially as a nod toward havi brooks, who has inspired me in more ways than i have the time to add up right now, and partially to make something happen. well, that something happened! and so i thought: now what? as in, what the hell am i going to do now?
clarification. i set up the friday afternoon update! so that i could finish my week on friday. i neglected to do anything to get my week started on monday. or to make up for the loss of income that generally goes hand in glove with getting a day off. so here we are.
making my blog work for me
if the friday update began with a nod to havi, this monday motivator begins with a nod to mike dooley, of notes from the universe fame, who has been a guiding light and frequent car companion for me over the past 2 years. and whose notes began as a…monday morning motivator.
now, i’m sure that most of the readers of mike’s original motivator thought that those emails were meant for them, to motivate them. and i’m also sure that mike was carrying that intent when he wrote them and sent them out each monday.
and i’m equally sure that those monday morning mailings were primarily meant as motivators for mike himself, just as i’m sure that mike himself is the first person to read each of his notes from the universe. and so it is with this monday morning motivator. me first. then you. and because it’s digital, your copy is just as clean and fresh and free of fingerprints as mine. and it won’t end up behind the hedges.
so then. here we go. enough with the pre-ambling and into the meat of the week.
introduction to this blog
it occurs to me that i haven’t actually made the formal introduction to creative lifestyles, or to me! partly because when the whole thing rolls out nobody is listening anyway! at any rate, introducing yourself is important. as a self-professed shy extrovert, this has been a hard lesson for me. i’m working on it. (you should too! i’d love to meet you!)
who I am and why I am doing this
my name is charles and i seem to function digitally as chas. go figure. i’m a healer. amongst my many tools i work with health and creativity counseling, yoga, and bodywork. this blog and website are all about sharing what i can in the realms of full-on, kick-ass, vibrant health. everyone should have some of that. i’m here to help.
because i don’t work in a particularly linear fashion, i can’t give you the 45 second blurb of what i do and expect you to get it. c’est la vie. hang in there, come back often, partake of the fruits, and some day it will all make sense. or not. enjoy at any rate. and thrive.
my blogging week
in which i give you a quick vision of how i envision my blogging week, so that you can arrange your life to make optimal use of the gifts that i offer you. (please note that i am exceptionally humble, so whenever it sounds like i might be tooting my own horn i’m actually being something akin to the second cousin of ironic;)
- mondays are all about the monday morning motivator. i suggest an email subscription, so you can check it out first thing monday morning. mondays can be challenging. i like a challenge. so should you. more on that subscription option later.
- tuesdays most often include 45 seconds post. these are short posts, generally culled word for word from the “mini-adverts” that i give each tuesday somewhere between 7:30 and 8 am, and were formerly categorized under 50 seconds, until my bni group got too big for its britches and cut us down to 45.
- wednesdays are the new home for i ain’t no doctor. this is my non-advice column for folks who have something they’d love to ask their doctor and then realize why bother. if you have a great doctor who listens and offers you good information rather than three minutes and a prescription, good for you. this post is for the rest of us. remember though, i ain’t no doctor, this ain’t advice, and you are responsible for your own life. oh yeah…questions are welcome, wanted, and appreciated!
- thursdays are a mixed bag at this point, the intention being some sort of post from the theme, vision, or life rules category. as i remember from college days, thursdays are the beginning of the weekend, and nothing goes with late nights and libations like some good old philosophical musings. a quick visit on thursday and you’ll have plenty of ammo for bulldozing, bullshitting, bewildering, and befuddling your conversational companions as the night grows dark and the urge to express yourself grows…i’ll let you fill in that last bit.
- fridays of course are for the friday afternoon update!, in which i take myself to task for all my monday morning plans that have crashed on the rocks near the sirens of webtopia, pat myself on the back for all of my completely unexpected triumphs and good fortunes, and generally just try to justify my existence before calling it a week!
weekly projects
so this is the stuff i have on my plate for this week. it’s a mix of business and pleasure and all the stuff in between. in no particular hierarchy (non-linear, remember…)
- start in on schools: yikes! the boston public schools system of placement bites worse than a snaggletoothed pit bull. what the hell happened to going to the school near your house? oh well…rowan is three and a half now, and in pre-school, and next year it’s k1, so a searching we go. the short version is, something like 38 schools to research, a lottery system, and no way of knowing where the hell your kid is going to end up once the whole process is over. feel my pain, please.
- announce gift certificates and set up paypal page?: that’s right. it’s the holiday season and i’m already behind the gun. consider this the pre-announcement, and feel free to contact me in the usual ways. private yoga, thai bodywork, table massage; all available to anyone in the boston metro area (as in you, or your 3rd cousin who lives in brookline village). and health and creativity counseling available to anyone with a phone (and please use a headset…i have an aversion to tumors).
- 8 minute presentation: oh my god i have an 8 minute presentation tomorrow morning at 8am and i have absolutely no idea what i am going to say! perhaps mime! or charades!
- shape up the groups: yes indeed, your eyes are telling you the truth. i am setting up two groups for the coming year, both live action at this point. one a 12 week dip into the artists way. another a 12 week dip into the true wheel. more on both of those when i get something on paper.
- set up email subscriptions: to the monday morning motivator and i ain’t no doctor.
- get some bodywork: praise the lord i have some sort of bodywork scheduled for wednesday with the immensely talented robin shaw, who has no website as far as i can tell, and on saturday with the equally talented kate garms, who, as you can see, does.
is that enough stuff?
goodbye ’til next time
so that’s it for the initial monday morning motivator. check back soon to see how we evolve. and get the heck out there and have an amazing week!
