why we do what we do
if the purpose of the monday morning motivator is to set up a map of the coming week; goals, things to do, dreams to manifest; then it is helpful to begin with a context, something that points to a larger vision of what the heck we want to do it for! and when it comes to vision, there is also the context of time span; day, week, month, year, decade, lifetime.
since this is a weekly project, the time span of the week is a gimme. this is all about setting up the best week ever. the days hours and minutes will have to take care of themselves. once i’m focused on the week, however, i seem to be begging the question of how this particular week fits into a larger vision of my life; a month, year, decade, whole enchilada. and of course, there is the consideration that time flows in two directions.
whew!
head spinning yet? mine is! and that’s why i need to nail this down, recognizing of course that it’s not really nail-down-able, that it will be fluxing even as i write and post, not to mention waking up tomorrow or next year. nevertheless, if we don’t walk outside and point ourselves down the street in some direction or other we will never get away from our fascination with screens and into the stream of life.
so the motivator exists primarily to get me off the screen and into the stream, even though many if not most of the projects i lay out will involve this damned screen. nevertheless, it’s all aimed at life in the stream. that’s one context, a large context. and for me, being in the stream implies flow and balance, the ability to move about relatively easily and experience all that life has to offer, and offer all that i have to offer.
that said, there’s business, and there’s health, and relationships and joy, and all the other spokes on the true wheel, as well as more more more…whatever it takes for you to be living your optimal life.
now for me, if i look at this week in the context of my entire future life, in the context of my entire past life, my future year and my past year, it is obvious that it is heavily weighted in the direction of earth, grounded-ness, taking care of my physical needs, both in terms of nourishing my body and soul, and in terms of having a good workspace, a place to cook, and a warm and cozy bed.
did i mention that i’m house sitting?
yeah. it happens. life takes us around a sharp corner and we discover that not only were we not wearing a seatbelt, we didn’t even have a securely closed door next to us and bam! we are rolling down the road in a completely unforseen direction. well, maybe not completely unforseen. maybe just impossible to predict even though we knew something was going to happen.
nevertheless, the path of house-sitting, what i call comfortable homelessness, was not on my list of things to do. and it seems to be taking me where i need and want to go. and it certainly helps to set a context of earthy groundedness. and so with no further ado, on to the list of things to do!
ongoing stuff of a grounding nature
so one thing i learned from last week is that there are the weekly projects, and there is the ongoing stuff. don’t mix! this is why it is so difficult to find a home chemistry kit these days. too many experiments gone awry when owner of kit (maybe me? maybe you?) thinks it is absolutely vital to see just what happens when we mix the sodium pyrosulfite with water. so, here’s to avoiding the stinky life!
- laundry (seems obvious, and then…)
- go to the bank and pay myself first
- straighten up my current digs, and take care of my general surroundings.
- pick up groceries for the week, mindful that effective friday i may be couch surfing for a week, and kristin doesn’t want me to cook any meat in her pans!
- get some bodywork! yes. today at 3. the talented kate garms.
- take a bath in kristin’s amazing tub! one of the amazing perks of house sitting is the chance to check out all aspects of a variety of living situations!
- keep setting out feelers for housesitting. currently looking for december 12-18, and january 1-23.
these are all slated for today and tomorrow, as a super grounded start to my week makes everything else flow along with much more energy and focus.
ongoing stuff that just has to get done!
- more stuff with the schools. as i mentioned last week, the boston public schools seems purposefully set to to annoy, confuse, and just generally make miserable everyone involved. and after doing a little research, i am duly unimpressed. all this work to send my son to a substandard school? yikes. if you have any suggestions please shoot them along, as i am currently thinking that it might be a good idea to just move somewhere with better schools and a friendlier enrollment system.
- 45 seconds. what am i looking for this week? check back tomorrow morning at 8!
- find a graphics magician who needs yoga, bodywork, or some wheel truing.
weekly projects
the rest of the stuff that i have to work on this week, mindful that i will probably never finish everything on the list, which is good, because lists must needs always be pruned in action, other wise we will drown ourselves in things to do before we ever get into the stream of life!
- announce gift certificates and paypal page. this is a holdover from last week, and it’s pretty vital given the date. look for an announcement today!
- shape up the groups. another holdover from last week. an announcement would be nice, even if i don’t have any firm dates and locations. just sayin’.
- set up email subscriptions: to the monday morning motivator and i ain’t no doctor. another holdover from last week. this might be too techie for now…and i’m going to give it a shot anyway.
- install advanced tinymce editor so i can get anchors on these posts and pages.
i’m thinking that if i can get these projects moving, along with my daily posting schedule, i’m in pretty good shape.
goodbye ’til next time
hope you are feeling a bit more motivated for the amazing week you are moving into. speaking of which..what’s on your list for this week? grounding? playing? traveling? shopping? speak your mind!

Thanks for the link to such a handy plugin!
House-sitting to me means looking after someone’s house when they’re away by living in it. Is this what you mean? Only it sounds like you mean you’re homeless. I’m assuming it’s some sort of combination of both the above, but either way I’m sending you some good vibes, just because I can!
My list for this week:
Do some paid work.
Look after myself very thoroughly.
I think I shall have a moment of gratitude at how simple my life is right now

yes, james, we are indeed talking about a combination of both, and thanks for the good vibes. homeless is a relative term, of course. i’ve slept in cars and on couches and floors, and this is not that. and i’ve never had to sleep in a cardboard box: this is definitely not that.
peace to you, enjoy your simplicity and keep pumping out the gratitude!
