monday morning motivator! 11, the big no of complaint

rubber band wrist

rubber band the wrist

okay then. complaint free world. rubber band the wrist and there we go.

the big no of complaint

the greatest block to the flow of passion is the big no of complaint. at its simplest we have the flow of yes and the dam of no. and the no is a revolt against what is.

now, obviously there is a time to say no.

  • no to greed.
  • no to violence.
  • no to stupidity.
  • etc.

and it gets tricky because the no itself can be stupid. the no can be violent. and…no is a pretty blunt object. not a lot of sophistication in the no.

so. let go of the complaint, which, after all, isn’t even a no. it’s simply a rejection of what is without any real offering to shift.

toggle it to a yes!

if you want a no to fly then it has to be toggled to a yes. see? it’s the put up or shut up idea. it’s like…if rowan is getting his brain sucked out by the television then my first instinct is to be all no! and then it is all confrontation. with a three and a half year old. not a good scenario.

well then…what can i offer to the situation? the full-on blunt authoritarian method is the simple no. it’s against the rules. turn it off.

and the full-on permissive “i wouldn’t dream to oppress you with my opinion even though i know that unlimited television will rot you brain and sap you of everything that is good and wonderful about you”…that full-on yes…well.

so how about offering a no toggled to a yes? no tv. let’s read a book. or take a walk. or chase each other around the house. of play in the snow. or pull out the paints. etc.

the road of creative living

of course, this requires action and most likely interaction on my part. that’s the thing. put up or shut up. so of course to step down this road is to step down the road of creative living.

uh oh! yikes. creative lifestyle! yikes!

oh no! what might come from this creation of life? yikes!

okay then. enough of that. this complaint free life is the first step along that road. the road of creative lifestyles. of life energy is creative energy. if i am not allowed to complain, and something is driving me crazy, well then…i have no choice other than to get involved somehow in effecting change with my own action. can’t tell someone else to go do it. must get involved myself. yes.

one simple change

and…well. what will my life look like if i make this one simple change? huh.

so for one week no complaint. what will change? and in what realms?

well, it’s a given that my relationship with randi will improve. oh yeah. for sure. if she could go a week without hearing me complain! oh yeah. and if i want dinner earlier at night then i can either make it or help get it prepped or whatever. etc.

now. in terms of the projects that i want to take care of. well. as i noticed earlier, passion is the engine that drives everything. and complaint is a damper on passion. so less or no complaint = more fuel for our passion. yes.

so then. what are the projects that are being dampened by complaint? that could be enlivened, stoked, fired up without the smothering blanket of complaint? huh.

well. in a way…who cares? the important thing is to let go of complaint…at the moment that it rears its ugly head. oh. did i just offer an insult? oh well. that’s not a complaint and it won’t earn me a snap on the wrist. that’s just an observation and an opinion. yeah.

so there we go. drop complaint and see what happens. see where passion goes when it’s free to run with all the natural juice my body can produce.

and what i’m really psyched to discover is the relationship between complaint and excuse. that should be rich territory.

now. what have you been complaining about? and what has that been dampening? ready to take on the burning sting of rubber to wrist each time you let go with a futile rejection of current reality?

ouch!

My recent find (thanks to @MyndeMayfield) is The Work by Byron Katie. It’s all about accepting what is, i.e. not saying no to what is.
Since I’m currently loving this, and going through it en mass at the moment, I thought I’d share it with you and your lovely readers. Seems applicable :)
