monday morning motivator! 10, talk about the passion

going direct

so here we are, another groundhog day, and with mercury going direct all things of an electrical, communicative, or forward progress nature should begin to run a little smoother, and then a lotta smoother, and finally a hella smoother. so why did it take me an hour to get online today (stupid attwifi)? well, mine is not to question why universe directs me in ways i do not understand or choose to go. mine is to accept that universal consciousness is much more in the know than little local charles faris, who simply does the best he can walking about in the relative darkness of my earthly existence, happiest and most fulfilled when he honors universal wisdom and waits for the moment that the net opens up to allow me entrance.

talk about the passion?

so with the cues now pointing in the direction of direct forward motion, with the ripples of past actions now moving once again into the future, i slept on the question of what healing agent would be most beneficial to me this week. and then an alignment resembling a perfect storm brought me headlong into passion.

  • last monday we entered the very auspicious year of the ox
  • late last week moon and venus had tea
  • next day venus promptly began to shine even brighter
  • randi’s ovaries began working overtime
  • yesterday began the two week festival of dionysus, god of male sexuality and ecstatic love

and to top all of that off, on friday night, in the midst of all this swirling of energies, on randi’s birthday nonetheless, we attended a party full of astounding yoga and martial arts demonstrations, hang drum ecstacy, and a talk by (former?) buddhist priest yasuhiko kimura about the importance of…passion. yeah…i think it must be former priest.

should i be scared?

yeah. so one of those about life in human form, usually unspoken and yet obvious enough if you look at it closely, is the relative ease with which women embrace passion, and the absolute terror that this inspires in the average male. oh sure we might bleat on about it late at night under the influence of one substance or another, and yet…being honest about this…passion is just not very high up the list for most men.

argue as you will, tell your stories and beat your drums, what most men call passion is a candle held up to the sun of what most women may on a good day hint at regarding their own inner fire. and such is the central tragedy of humanity, methinks. and so this week i’m thinking that if i’m serious about this year of self healing, i’d better get right in on the central wound and explore this thing that scares the hell out of me.

combien du temps?

alright. so it’s no secret that we are limited in time. and we are limited in resources. and we are limited in freedom from responsibilities. and so in exploring this idea of passion i thought i would turn the old saw of how to find out what your passion is onto its head. you know the one i’m talking about?

if you had unlimited time, unlimited resources, zero responsibilities, what would you do?

idea being that once you say what you would do under those impossible to even comprehend circumstances, the questioner then pronounces that this is your passion and you should follow it right now in order to reach some mythical world of bliss and happiness in which it will begin to seem as if you had unlimited time and resources and freedom from responsibilities.

too bad that’s just a heaping pile of bullshit!

well, let’s face it. if you have to imagine something so completely ridiculous as unlimited time resources and freedom in order to get in touch with your passion, then how the hell are you ever going to pursue it under the life we live, with it’s very obvious constraints upon our time, resources, and freedom?

obviously, you are not, and i would go so far as to say that if you need such a fantastically idealistic view of life in order to come up with your passion, then it isn’t really a passion at all. it’s just a wimpy little wish.

so how can we discover our passion?

how about this: you have one day to live, you’re broke, and you have no limit of family, friends, and others less worthy of your attention, all crying out for your time and energy.

what do you do then?

  • if you are ringo you might start tapping out a beat with your feet and slapping your hands on your thighs.
  • if you are george you might start bending strings and wondering if you can get your guitar to sound like a sitar.
  • if you are paul you might start wailing your best little richard.
  • and if you are john you might try adding some dylan imagery to some lyrics about yet another girl who has broken your heart.

and then wow…four guys with a whole lot of nothing could work their asses off for 5 years straight, with no promise of anything more than sweat and speed in return, and suddenly discover that their passion, cos’ that’s the only thing they had, and it’s the only thing their audience wanted, had turned them into the biggest thing ever, excepting jesus of course.

please don’t burn my blog!

i like jesus. i’m just a wise ass.

a little thought experiment

imagine you have limited time, limited resources, and no end of people who want some of what little you’ve got. and imagine that this is never going to change.

what is that thing that you do whenever you have a chance that makes you smile and get juicy every time? are you like ringo, tapping away on whatever is available? are you like george, playing around with what you’ve got and trying to make it do something else? are you like paul, singing in the car or the shower or the middle of a howling storm? are you like john, playing with words images and seeing just how clever you can be and how many chains you can yank with a few well placed words?

well then…whatever that thing is that you sneak in whenever you can, that’s your passion. follow it. water it. nourish it. give it a little more of your limited time and resources. find a way to do it with those people you are obliged to. whatever. feed it.

feed it and it will feed you. give it time and it will give you time. oblige yourself to it as you oblige yourself to your family, friends, employers.

give it your life and it will give you your life.

click.

what’s your bloody passion, already! stop keeping it to yourself!

The voice in my head says I would dance. I’m not sure if this is true or not. But it’s not any kind of dance, it’s happy, ecstatic, bouncy, completely for myself but immersed in other people, dance. It’s improvised contact dance.

Now I’m shitting bricks, because I’m seeing something and it terrifies me. (So yeah, that answers the true or not question).

P.S. Come on then, spill yours. :)
