5 hours down, from noon thirty ystdy. 3 hours and fifteen minutes back, from 10:45 this morning. ninety something songs. lot’s of space for rocking out, mournful loss, hopeful exuberance, wounded anger, cocky optimism, tearful disappointment…

it’s been a week of constant reminders that our thoughts and our emotions are intimately connected to our bodies, and that if all three aren’t working together with a smooth flow of energy we are just not living! and then 8 hours and fifteen minutes to feel a literal carload of emotions, whoa! talk about putting the pedal to the metal and blowing out some old crusty deposits! whoo! this is yoga!

and then all blown open by this mad cap road trip, tim o’reilly introduces me to ben zander, whose take on classical music is going right down the same highway: music as supreme emotional body conditioner!

now, what can i say about ben zander, that wouldn’t best be left to a short set of bullets in his own words?

  • my job was to awaken possibility in other people.
  • if [their] eyes are shining, you know you’re doing it.
  • who am i being that [ ]’s eyes are not shining?
  • what is success? how many shining eyes i have around me.
  • “i’ll never say anything that couldn’t stand as the last thing i ever say”

and all of that he arrived at from working to make classical music more accessible to all of us, as a conveyor of emotional content in our lives. and that’s one thing that i see…the similarity between a well crafted playlist and a stunning piece of classical music: the ability of the music to take us beyond the two dimensionality of mood swings into the multi-dimensional emotional range of fully functional human beings!

so that’s been my week…music, emotion, change. what’s up with you?
