i’d love to turn you on
a flurry of activity this week, shifting, changing, questioning, initiating, all in time for the biggifying energy of the full moon. let’s get on with it.
woke up, got out of bed
instituted a new morning routine this week; a phase-in toward a full-on upgrade next week. the major piece introduced involved waking up alarm free. i was inspired in this by noticing how the snooze button was becoming irresistable and i was generally waking up too late to get a head start on anything.
i have to add here that i’ve spent years in the past without an alarm, so i know it can be done, and i feel deep down that the alarm is a crutch that weakens my waking muscle. also, i have the worlds quietest alarm. three little chirps from a baby palm pilot z something or other that i downgraded to alarm clock when i upgraded to an iphone for organizing.
somebody spoke and i went into a dream
before i dive into the results so far, i’ll give you a few bullets re my protocol. in brief:
- i set the alarm for the latest possible moment i can get up and not completely destroy my day
- i decide when i actually want to wake up
- i go over what i actually want to do with the time between my target wake up and my alarm kicking in
- i take a minute to focus in on that wake up time
- lights out!
there are also a couple of things i’ll be playing with over the first few weeks of alarm clock freedom:
- choosing my sleeping duration as a multiple of 90 minutes, ie 6 hours, 7 1/2 hours, 9 hours
- setting a consistent wake up time
props to wikihow for the idea about 90 minute increments, and to havi brooks for passing on andrey lappe’s dictum “tomorrow begins today”, which greatly informed my decision to envision my morning before i go to sleep.
so on to the initial results. as i mentioned, this is the phase-in to the full-on upgrade next week, and the results after two days are:
- thursday target 6 am, wake-up 6:02
- friday target 6 am, wake-up 6:22
both days i had plenty of time to do my heart meditation, dance of shiva, and shower before getting into the rest of my day. next week is a bit more ambitious, and i’ll fill you in then.
creative lifestyles llc
took the plunge on wednesday, 12 hours before the moon peaked, and met with the small business lawyer from my bni group. walked out of her office with wheels in motion for creative lifestyles llc, which allows me to get my creative formulations and my legal structure all on the same page. woo hoo! creative lifestyles incorporating bodyodyssey.
bodyodyssey will continue to be the container for yoga and massage. creative lifestyles, beside being bodyodyssey’s parent, will focus on the true wheel, a program for developing optimal health and creativity, incorporating coaching, meditation, yoga, and massage.
creative lifestyles in particular will continue to develop programs designed to help entrepreneurs and wantrepreneurs develop the health, vitality, emotional balance and mental focus necessary to seamlessly integrate their work life with their life life. you could call this work life balance; i won’t. i consider work life to be a subsidiary of life life.
more on this as we unfold.
i already helped somebody else out today
on wednesday morning, after dropping rowan off at pre-school, and prior to a wonderful massage from kate garms, i dropped into a warm and cozy spot to have some tea and do some online work. after about a half hour an old woman, younger than she looked i’m sure, and very much a david lynch character, shuffled in and asked me for change for the bus.
usually uncomfortable with the extremely down and out, i have recently started stretching out a bit and offering something to those who ask. lord knows i’ve never been that desperate; or at least not that particular brand of desperate. so i looked in her eyes and gave her a dollar and told her she was welcome.
an hour later, as i was coming back into the warmth after plugging my meter, a youngish fellow outside the door asked me for change for a coffee. without thinking i spoke the words that have haunted me ever since. “sorry. i already helped somebody else out today.”
working on my carrying capacity for helping people out.
